Sancerre "Château du Nozay" Rouge 2022
Domaine du Nozay – Sancerre wines in a special class
The grapes for this special vintage from Domaine du Nozay come from the estate's oldest vines, planted in the "Château du Nozay" plot. These 47-year-old canes, among the oldest on the property, are gently hand-harvested by small hands to ensure quality and gentle treatment. On arrival at the cellar, the grapes are de-stemmed and undergo a long alcoholic fermentation in vats and terracotta glasses. The fermentation takes place without the use of artificial yeast, unnecessary additives or thermoregulation, which gives the wine a clean and natural expression. After fermentation, the grapes are gently pressed on a wooden press, and the press juice is mixed with the free-flowing juice. The wine is then aged on fine lees for 10 months in both barrels and glass to achieve optimal complexity and depth.
Color and Aroma
The wine impresses visually with its intense, deep ruby red color, which immediately signals quality and richness. In the nose, you are met by complex notes, where depth and intensity dominate, which underlines the wine's origin from the old vines and the gentle production.
Tasting notes
On the palate, the Domaine du Nozay wine shows its impressive length and fullness. It is full-bodied and rich with a harmonious blend of spices, supple acidity and a natural tannin structure that creates an elegant balance between strength and lightness. This wine is both delicious and rich and has an aging potential of 8 to 15 years, making it ideal for those who want a wine that can develop beautifully over time.
The story behind Domaine du Nozay
Domaine du Nozay is located at Le Nozay, a charming little 17th century château near the village of Sainte Gemme, located in the Sancerrois area north of Sancerre. The property covers 15 hectares and has been around since the 1970s. In 1991, one of the family members who had previously worked with his uncle, Aubert de Villaine, the famous co-manager of Romanée-Conti, joined the family estate. In 2011, Domaine du Nozay made the transition to organic farming and in 2017 to biodynamics to strengthen its commitment to environmentally friendly wine production. This transformation has lifted Domaine du Nozay to new heights, ensuring wines that respect both the soil and the vines, and which are created with great love and attention to detail.
Domaine du Nozay is dedicated to creating exceptional wines that represent the essence of the Sancerre area and the unique terroirs that have made this estate famous among wine lovers.
