White wine - Mosel

Saar is one of the best-known sub-regions of the Mosel, and it is famous for its exceptional white wines, especially the elegant and mineral Riesling wines. Situated along the Saar River, a tributary of the Mosel, the area is characterized by steep vineyards, which provide the perfect conditions for growing Riesling grapes, which thrive in the cooler microclimate the region offers.

Wines from the Saar are known for their fine balance between high acidity and intense minerality, making them particularly refreshing and complex. The shale-rich soil and sunny riverside slopes contribute to the character of the wine, which often offers notes of citrus fruits, green apples and flowers, along with a pronounced, almost salty minerality that gives the wine a fresh and lively mouthfeel.

Saar Riesling is known for being both light and lively, yet with a depth and complexity that makes it ideal for both drinking young and aging for several years. This region is particularly known for its dry (Trocken) and semi-sweet (Feinherb) versions of Riesling, which are perfect for pairing with seafood, fish, Asian food or even spicy dishes.

Discover our selection of white wines from Saar and discover how this small but impressive wine region in the Mosel creates some of the finest Riesling wines in the world.
