The first rosé wines that gained traction here at home were from Portugal. It was especially Mattheus who achieved great popularity. It was somewhat sweeter, darker in color and stronger in style than the rosé wines that are most popular today. Here, it is especially rosé wines from Provence and the South of France that are popular because of their slightly drier taste and much lighter, delicate color. It gives some much better fruit notes and more freshness in the taste. This may have helped to promote the popularity of rosé wine and probably also meant that it is no longer considered a "women's and summer wine".
