Bersan – Irancy "Louis Bersan" 2017: A Classic Pinot Noir from Northern Burgundy

From the historic vineyards of Irancy, Northern Burgundy, comes this elegant Pinot Noir, carrying on the proud traditions of the Bersan family. With grapes from 70-year-old vines and a terroir characterized by Kimmeridgian clay-limestone soils, "Louis Bersan" 2017 offers an authentic tasting experience for Burgundy lovers.


Terroir and the character of the vintage

The wine originates from west-facing slopes, where the unique composition of the soil and a perfect exposure provide ideal conditions for the Pinot Noir grape. However, the 2017 vintage was challenging with frost in the spring that significantly reduced the yield. However, the heat of the summer and a slow ripening contributed to a fresh acid structure that is reflected in the wine.

The grapes are grown organically and harvested manually to ensure quality. After the harvest, the wine is fermented spontaneously with natural yeast cells in temperature-controlled steel tanks. Aging takes place over 12 months in oak casks, 30% of which are new, to add complexity and finesse, and a further 4 months in large demi-muids that preserve the fruitiness of the wine.

  • Aroma: Delicate and nuanced with a dominant aroma of red fruits, especially ripe cherries, complemented by subtle notes of spice and light toast from the barrel ageing.
  • Taste: Harmonious and balanced with a rich structure, soft tannins and an acidic undertone that gives the wine freshness. The taste is rich with red berries and an elegant touch of minerality from the terroir.
