Domaine Gresser's Riesling Kastelberg is undoubtedly one of Alsace's greatest wines. Slate soils are a rarity in Alsace and Kastelberg is the only Grand Cru vineyard in the region with the special Steige slate.
The dark slate and the southern exposure of the field create an intense white wine with a marked mineral expression. The scent brings to mind warm flint or wet slate bricks, smoke and spices. The taste is reminiscent of the sharpness and hardness of slate, but it is also rich, complex and long. Only approx. 2000 bottles are produced.
