Terroir and History

The name Sous Roche refers to the vineyards' unique location in Saint-Romain. Here, 60-year-old Pinot Noir vines grow in limestone-rich marl soil on hillsides 300 meters above sea level. This elevated location ensures optimal growing conditions, where warm currents and cool air from the valley create a perfect balance between ripening and freshness.

  • Color : Clear and vibrant red that reflects the wine's elegance and youth.
  • Aroma : An aromatic bouquet of fresh red fruits such as raspberries and cherries. With age, notes of ripe fruit and spices develop, adding complexity.
  • Taste : The wine has a lively freshness and an elegant depth due to the old vines. It balances lightness with a long, persistent finish, where the fruit is clearly at the center.

Vinification and Aging Potential

The grapes from the old vines are carefully selected and vinified with a focus on highlighting the unique character of the terroir. The wine is created to be enjoyed young , where its fresh fruit aromas shine. However, with 4-5 years of aging it develops a spicier profile with deeper, mature notes.

Saint Romain Sous Roche should be served at 14-16°C to highlight its freshness and elegance. It is a versatile companion to many dishes, including:
