A Sweet Symphony from Roussillon!
Domaine Pouderoux is located in Rivesaltes, an appellation in Roussillon, southern France, famous for its fortified wines, especially the sweet wines made from Muscat grapes. Rivesalte's terroir is varied, but generally characterized by sunny days and soil that allows the grapes to reach optimal maturity, which is ideal for the production of sweet wines.
Grape composition: This wine is made from Muscat grapes, probably Muscat à Petits Grains, which is the most noble of the Muscat family, known for its fine aroma and ability to produce both dry and sweet wines with an intense fragrance.
Winemaking: Muscat de Rivesaltes is made by a process known as "mutage," where fermentation is stopped by the addition of grape spirit, preserving the grapes' natural sweetness. This technique highlights the grape's aromatic properties and ensures a harmonious balance between sweetness and acidity.
Tasting Notes and Characteristics:
-
Nose: The aroma is intense and floral, characterized by notes of fresh grapes, orange blossom, lychee, and perhaps a hint of roses. There may also be a slightly spicy undertone.
-
Taste: On the palate, the wine is rich and sweet, but with a fresh acidity that prevents it from feeling heavy or sticky. The taste follows the nose with ripe tropical fruits, citrus, some spice from the natural spice of the muscat grape, and a pleasant honey-like aftertaste.
-
Finish: The finish is long and harmonious, where the sweetness and acidity dance an elegant ballet, leaving a clean and refreshing sensation.
Aging Potential: Although Muscat de Rivesaltes can be enjoyed young to experience its fresh fruitiness, it also has the potential to age. Over time, the wine will develop more complex flavors of dried fruit, nuts, and caramelized notes, which makes it interesting to age for several years.
