Jean Christophe Bersan – Côtes d'Auxerre Rouge 2022: An Organic Pearl from Northern Burgundy
From the heart of Saint-Bris in northern Burgundy, Jean Christophe Bersan presents a red wine deeply rooted in the area's unique terroir. This wine is the result of an ideal climate, careful organic cultivation and a passion for authentic wines.
Terroir and Vinification
Côtes d'Auxerre Rouge 2022 comes from the famous Kimmeridgian hills, where clay-limestone soil and south-, southeast- and west-facing vineyards create optimal conditions for the Pinot Noir grape. The average 40-year-old vines are grown organically and harvested manually to ensure grapes of the highest quality.
After the harvest, the wine ferments spontaneously with natural yeast cells in temperature-controlled steel tanks. For added complexity and structure, it is aged for 10 months, half of which takes place in French oak barrels. This gives the wine a perfect balance between freshness and depth.
Tasting notes
- Colour: An intense, deep red that highlights the fullness and maturity of the wine.
- Nose: Clean and inviting with notes of raspberry, fresh almonds and a discreet mineral edge that reflects the limestone soil of the terroir.
- Taste: The taste is fresh and full-bodied with a nice structure. Well-balanced tannins give the wine character and make it soft and welcoming at the same time. The aftertaste is lively and mineral, with a persistent fruity finish.
Food and Serving
This versatile red wine is an excellent companion for both everyday dishes and festive meals. It is particularly suitable for:
- White meat such as chicken or turkey.
- Red meat such as veal or lamb.
- Cheeses , both mild and medium-ripened varieties such as brie or camembert.
Best served at 14-16 °C to highlight the wine's elegant aromas and structure.
Conclusion: A must for Pinot Noir lovers
Jean Christophe Bersan – Côtes d'Auxerre Rouge 2022 is an excellent example of what northern Burgundy can offer. With its fresh and well-balanced profile, it is both a delight for the palate and a tribute to the area's terroir.
