Château Gigognan was founded way back in the 15th century and with 72 ha. fields, the castle is large by French standards. The previous owner, Jacques Callet, bought Gigonan in the 1990s and embarked on a major renovation. He allied himself with esteemed experts, e.g. oenologist Philippe Cambie, and now produces several types of wine, from everyday Côtes du Rhône to excellent Châteauneufs – all at very reasonable prices. These are modern and elegant wines, which of course have the strong and juicy character of the area. The castle was certified organic in 2010 and grows several different types of grapes, including Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Their white wines have won lots of awards over the years. New owners joined in 2017 and have since built a brand new cellar. The style does not change, but there are new attempts to, among other things, there is now a new red wine without added sulphites. It is possible to stay overnight in large romantic luxury rooms with a view of the vineyards.
