Unique growing space and ideal conditions
The grapes for this wine are grown on clay-limestone and sandy soil, which gives the wine its special character and complexity. The vines are strategically located on a south-facing, gently sloping hillside around the beautiful Château Gigognan. This exposure provides perfect conditions for optimal ripening of the grapes and ensures a wine with great depth and intensity.
Careful Harvest and Gentle Vinification
The harvest is a careful process where the grapes are sorted and de-stemmed to preserve their integrity. They are transported without the use of pumps, which ensures that they retain their aromatic potential and the quality of the structure. The fermentation process takes place in thermoregulated stainless steel tanks that are carefully controlled to highlight the unique qualities of each grape.
Slow Ripening and Perfect Composition
Each grape variety and parcel is matured separately to preserve its characteristics before being brought together in May 2023. This method gives the wine a harmonious balance and deep complexity that can only be achieved through patience and expertise.
Tasting notes:
Color and Aroma: This vintage presents a brilliant garnet/raspberry color that immediately catches the eye. In the nose, a rich and delicious bouquet is experienced with notes of currants, raspberries and a subtle note of licorice (zan). The floral nuances of camellia blend beautifully with a deep, chocolatey scent.
Taste: The taste is both creamy and sharp, thanks to the supple and finely chiseled tannins. This gives the wine an exquisite balance between roundness and tension. The palate unfolds with complex notes of cherry, forest fruits, sandalwood and darker fruits such as plum and fig. The wine finishes with an elegant undertone of graphite, a signature of Château Gigognan's unique terroir.
A wine for all the senses
It is a symbol of the careful approach to winemaking and the deep understanding of the terroir. Perfect to accompany red meat, lamb or mature cheeses – or enjoyed alone to fully experience its many nuances.
